Nature is an emotion, an upbeat feeling. Get into this emotion by getting immersed and engaged with nature and its varied properties. Ecological sensitivity does not happen in a vacuum. One develops it as one begins to notice and value the earth and its multifarious life forms. I love spending quiet time in the solitude of nature. Staying long enough lets one see the splendour of birds, butterflies, plants, flowers and even tiny insects. Promote justice, peace, and integrity of creation (JPIC).

Most Common Weeds and Wild Grasses in Karnataka, India

Weeds are plants in the wrong place. They are unwanted in human-controlled settings, such as farm fields and gardens. Interestingly, a weed in one context is not a weed in another context. Many plants that people widely regard as weeds also are intentionally grown in gardens and other cultivated settings, in which case they are sometimes called beneficial weeds .

Scaly-breasted Munia Making Nest

Seeing a scaly-breasted munia, with mechanical precision, gathering pieces of grass and going up the ornamental arecanut tree, raised my curiosity. I followed the munia, and to my surprise, it was building its nest there. It was in-between the trunk of the tree and its large leaf. Considering the size of the bird, it was an ambitious project –a big nest, with a round opening to its side.

The jungle babbler ( Argya striata ) is found in the Indian subcontinent . They forage in small groups of six to ten birds, a habit that has given them the popular name of " Seven Sisters " in urban Northern India, and Saath bhai ( seven brothers ) in Bengali , and in other regional languages also we have similar names.

I am not a Lepidopterist, but a photographer. I love photographing birds and butterflies for the reason that they are free beings like me-of-my-dreams. They inspire me. They move, they fly, hide; and if we want to capture them, we have to adjust ourselves to their rhythm, mood and behavioural patterns. It is an exercise in patience and waiting. It is a challenge worth taking.
