Indian Fritillary Butterfly has a flash of brilliant orange and black patterns. The Indian Fritillary (Argynnis hyperbius) is a true showstopper. Its wings feature a complex "checkerboard" pattern of deep orange and black spots. When at rest, the underside of their wings reveals a "silver-washed" look with pale greenish and silvery scales, helping them blend into foliage.
You’ll most commonly find them at elevations between 1,000 and 2,500 meters. They are frequent visitors to open hillsides, forest edges, and—as seen in the photo—vibrant garden flowers like Hydrangeas. Next time when you are in Ooty you’re in the mountains, keep an eye out for this orange-winged traveler!
