The Baya Weaver (Ploceusphilippinus) is a small, sparrow-sized bird renowned across the Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia for its extraordinary nest-building prowess. These social and gregarious birds are typically found in flocks in open habitats such as grasslands, cultivated areas, scrub, and secondary growth. While both sexes resemble a female House Sparrow in non-breeding plumage (dark brown streaked above, whitish below, with a buff eyebrow and horn-coloured bill), the breeding male undergoes a striking transformation, developing a bright yellow crown, a dark brown mask, and a blackish bill, making him easily identifiable.
