The Asian Green Bee-eater (Meropsorientalis) is a truly captivating bird, widely distributed across the Indian Subcontinent, Southeast Asia, and parts of the Middle East and Africa. True to its name, its plumage is predominantly a brilliant emerald green, often tinged with blue on the chin and throat, and a touch of golden rufous on the crown and upper back. A distinguishing feature is the long, slender central tail feathers, which can add a significant length to their overall size of around 16-18 cm. Both sexes look similar, though females might have a slightly duller throat.
These slender birds are masters of aerial insect hunting, often seen perching conspicuously on low branches, wires, or fences, scanning the air for their next meal.
