Pied Paddy Skimmer Dragonflies

The Pied Paddy Skimmer (neurothemis tullia) is a small yet eye-catching dragonfly commonly found across South and Southeast Asia. Its name aptly describes its preferred habitat and distinctive appearance.

This species exhibits strong sexual dimorphism, meaning males and females look quite different. Mature males are quite striking. Their body is predominantly black, and their wings feature a bold pattern: the basal half of the wings is an opaque, almost steely blue-black, sharply contrasting with a milky white band beyond it, and then clear, transparent tips. The wing venation is reddish. Females and Immature Males are generally yellowish or brownish in body colour. Their wings are largely transparent but often have an amber-yellow wash at the base, followed by dark brown or blackish patches towards the tips, and a broader black stripe on the abdomen.
