Grey Pansy Butterflies

Grey Pansy (junonia atlites) is a common and elegant butterfly widely distributed across South and Southeast Asia, including various parts of India. The Gray Pansy is typically a medium-sized butterfly.

Its most characteristic feature is its pale grayish-brown or lavender-brown wings, which are distinctly marked with intricate patterns. The upperside of both forewings and hindwings feature a series of distinct eye-spots (ocelli), usually two prominent ones on each wing, which are typically black-centred and often outlined with a touch of ocherous yellow. The overall pattern provides excellent camouflage when the butterfly is at rest on dry leaves or the ground. The underside is much paler with very delicate markings.
