Black Kites Even Use Iron Strings for Their Nests

Black Kites (Milvusmigrans) are highly adaptable and opportunistic raptors. While their nests are primarily built from dry twigs and branches, these urban-dwelling birds have a remarkable propensity for incorporating various human-derived materials into their structures. Among these, iron string and wires are indeed sometimes used, particularly in urban landscapes where natural nesting materials might be scarce or where such items are readily available. Beyond their primary twig framework, Black Kite nests can be found to contain a diverse array of "rubbish," including paper, rags, plastic, cloth, feathers, bones, and even small pieces of metal like iron wire.
