Carambolim Lake, also known as Karmali Lake, is a significant freshwater body located near the village of Karmali in North Goa's Tiswadi Taluka. Situated just 2 kilometres southeast of Old Goa and 12 kilometres from Panaji, it's a popular destination for nature enthusiasts, particularly birdwatchers.
Originally a man-made lake constructed for the irrigation of surrounding paddy fields. Its shallow waters, abundant aquatic vegetation (including water lilies and water hyacinths), and surrounding greenery create an ideal habitat for a wide array of avian life.
Carambolim Lake offers a tranquil escape from Goa's more bustling tourist spots, making it ideal for birdwatching, photography, and peaceful contemplation. Its ecological significance is recognized by various conservation bodies, emphasising its role in supporting diverse biodiversity in the region.
