The Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, located on Chorao Island in Goa, India, is a vital mangrove ecosystem that serves as a haven for diverse avian species. Named after the renowned Indian ornithologist Dr. Salim Ali, this 178-hectare sanctuary sits along the Mandovi River and represents one of Goa's most important wetland habitats.

The mangroves create a complex ecosystem that not only supports birdlife but also plays a crucial role in preventing soil erosion and maintaining coastal stability. The intricate root systems serve as nurseries for various fish species and provide shelter to numerous crustaceans and mollusks. |

I visited the place in January, and had a long walk along the shores of Mandovi bridge, into the bird sanctuary. I could not observe too many bird species, but the ecosystem with its mangroves and root systems foster a lot of other marine lives.
