On the banks of the Yamuna River in Delhi lies the Asita East Yamuna Ghat Park. This is actually the floodplains of Yamuna. Amidst the Delhi urban jungle, this is a vital sanctuary for birds and a beacon of hope for nature, and a lung space for the people around. The area has been revitalized. Catchment zones were created, wetlands restored, and native vegetation reintroduced. This meticulous effort resulted in a haven for both resident and migratory birds.
A Paradise for Feathered Friends
The park's diverse habitats – from restored wetlands to flourishing grasslands – provide a perfect breeding and feeding ground for a variety of avian species. Birdwatchers flock to Asita East, eager to catch a glimpse of resident birds like the common waterfowl or the elusive grey hornbill. I visited this wonderful place in October 2023; and the two-hour long bird-photography walk was fully worth it.
