Sudden Encounter With a Flying Lizard

As I was watching birds, I saw something like a bird landing on to a large Anjili tree. I was curious. It was a lizard; but it was very different. I took pictures. After some investigation I realised that it was a flying lizard. Draco is also known as flying lizards, flying dragons or gliding lizards. These lizards are capable of gliding down long distances. Glides as long as 60 m (200 ft) have been recorded. It has a bright yellow flap on the neck, which it keeps moving constantly.

These lizards seldom come down to the ground. The only time a female flying lizard ventures to the ground is when she is ready to lay her eggs. She descends the tree she is on and makes a nest hole by forcing her head into the soil. She then lays 2–5 eggs before filling the hole and guards the eggs for approximately 24 hours, but then leaves and has nothing more to do with her offspring.

It has great capacity to camouflage with the tree bark, thus it is very difficult to notice it.
